2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa County
By layering fruit from Napa's volcanic hillside soils and the deeper alluvial soils of the valley floor, Tony accomplished his goal of marrying many different expressions into one outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon that boasts a beautiful, complex textures.
A fantastic vintage, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon underwent 14 months of French oak barrel aging that further concentrated the wine's vibrant jammy red cherry, candied blackberry, and spice flavors, adding a hint of coffee and lingering dark chocolate notes on the finish.
2013 is being called a "early, even and excellent" vintage for Napa Valley. Extremely low rainfall, long stretches of warm summer days, and foggy and cool evenings helped to assist in perfectly ripening our Oberon grapes. Due to the wonderful growing conditions, our vineyards produced nearly 30% higher volume of perfectly ripened grapes than the previous three years, allowing us to pick the fruit at the optimum time, providing us juice that shows the ripe flavors and high quality that Napa has to offer.
To create Oberon Cabernet Sauvignon, Tony sourced grapes from throughout Napa's finest winegrowing regions, including Rutherford, Oakville, Oaknoll, Yountville, Wooden Valley, and our own Oso Vineyard at the northeastern end of Napa Valley. By layering fruit from Napa's volcanic hillside soils and the deeper alluvial soils of the valley floor, Tony accomplished his goal of marrying many different expressions into one outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon that boasts a beautifully seamless mouthfeel and rich, complex texture and flavors.
After the grapes were gently hand-harvested, de-stemmed and crushed, the juice fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with an extended post-fermentation maceration that beautifully married flavors and tannins, giving our Oberon Cabernet Sauvignon its lovely, seamless texture. Malolactic fermentation in French oak, combined with 14 months aging (45% new French oak), further concentrated the wine's vibrant and jammy red cherry, candied blackberry, and spice flavors. A hint of coffee and a lingering dark chocolate create a lingering and delightful finish.
90 Points - 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon
"Sourced from all over the Napa Valley, this wine blends 87% Cabernet Sauvignon with 1% Syrah and other unnamed red varieties. The effort works, resulting in a glass of concentrated red cherry, herb and spice, the tannins tight yet approachable enough for the wine to remain juicy."

This complex, good Cabernet Sauvignon represents exceptionally good value. Drink it over the next 2-4 years. "

91 Points, Editor's Choice - 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon
"This release represents a gigantic leap forward for Oberon in their basic Cabernet Sauvignon. Past releases have been so-so. This one's terrific. Blended from vineyards all over the valley, it shows all the hallmarks of a Napa Cab you want. It's dry, full-bodied and impressively ripe in blackberries, currants, licorice and oak, with a long, smooth finish."
